1. Welcome to StepPhone
This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your information when you use the StepPhone mobile application and any related website (together, the "Service"). Please read it carefully. By accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read and understood this policy and agree to its terms together with our Terms of Service.
2. Who We Are
The Service is operated by aSocial Inc., a corporation organized under the laws of Ontario, Canada. StepPhone promotes healthier screen habits by asking you to walk a chosen number of steps before selected apps on your device unlock.
3. What Information We Collect
3.1 Information You Give Us Directly
- Account information: if you create an account, we collect what's needed to set it up (your email address and display name), including details passed to us through third-party sign-in services (Apple, Google).
- User content: anything you choose to add, such as profile details or onboarding preferences.
- Support messages: the contents of any message you send us, along with your contact details.
3.2 Data We Collect Automatically
- Usage data: activity within StepPhone, such as step goals, goals completed, streaks, unlock history, and session length.
- Device information: your device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, app-level identifiers, and IP address.
- Crash and diagnostic data: crash reports and performance diagnostics that help us find and fix problems, collected through Crashlytics.
- App-usage information: through the iOS Screen Time framework, we learn which of your chosen apps are locked or unlocked so we can enforce your step-based limits. We do not collect the contents of what you view inside those apps, and much of this information is processed on your device rather than sent to us.
3.3 Step & Motion Data (Our Core Feature)
- What we read: StepPhone reads your step count and motion activity from Apple HealthKit and your device's motion sensors (Core Motion) to confirm that you've completed the walking needed to unlock an app.
- Explicit consent: before we access your camera, motion, or health data, we ask for your clear permission within the app and through the operating system's permission prompt. You can withdraw any of these permissions at any time in your device settings.
